About Us

We are a kiwi couple, who are on the heart reaching journey to have our own family. We have been together for 8 years and married for 2. We left good jobs, a house and a full on lifestyle in Auckland to move to be with my family in Hawkes Bay all in hopes of starting a family.

Like most women I just naturally assumed that having a family was my god given right, and as I had carefully planned out my life - education - good job - marriage, I figured the natural next step was to have a family of our own (my husband has 2 teenagers from his first marriage) but it has proved to not be that simple.

I was diagnosed with PCOS in my early twenties so we always knew that it would be harder  to complete our family. What we were not prepared for was being told that we are "highly unlikely" to ever have our own children. I am obese and have struggled with my weight forever, but this turned out to be my undoing. Because of my size the specialist will not even consider me for treatment until I lose 50kgs!!
This is achievable, but to do it healthily it would take me 2 years.  But the twist in this story is that I am about to be 37. We are not in a position to pay for IVF alone, and the New Zealand government will only fund treatment if you meet certain criteria 1. that you have a BMI of under 32 ( I would need to be 80kgs) and you are under 40. So the combination of my age and size makes the odds of having our biological child very low. But we will try.

After 3 years of trying to have a child naturally, we have decided to adopt. This fits with our ethos and we would love to give a home and family to child that need it.
The chance of adoption are about 25% - with about 300 families in the adoption pool and about 60 baby adopted to non family members a year. So this is a best hope.
